In 2003: Palm releases Zire 71 (OMAP310 144MHz processor; integrated camera; hi-res).

I really liked the 71. It wasn't as good as the 72 in my view, of course it was earlier but I liked the physical design of the slider. It was really cool.

In 2003: Palm releases Tungsten C (PXA-255 400MHz processor; integrated WiFi; first with 64MB RAM).

Integrated wifi wasn't something common back in 2003. In fact even having wifi at home wasn't entirely common, so the C was quite a step forward and a pretty impressive device, especially given its processor and amount of RAM.

In 1997: pilotgear, the first commercial software archive, goes online (later became PalmGearHQ)

PalmGear was an amazing portal for getting Palm OS software (we didn't call it apps in those days). I remember discovering it and finding so many new possibilities for my PDA. I'm so sad it went dark.

In 2003: HandEra announces end-of-life for PalmOS handheld lineup

What a shame. Handera made the TRG Pro and the 330, both excellent machines and way ahead of their time in my view. I wish they'd made an OS5 machine, it would have been amazing.

In 1996: Pilot 1000, 5000 start shipping

It was the very start of something that has defined the current mobile world. It was a big and important thing, and it good to mark it today in the calendar. So go and celebrate by doing something to do with PDAs today.
