Backing up in Windows Mobile

Which is something I haven't really made much use of and really should do as I'm putting a load more stuff into Windows Mobile right now.

As is normal on a lot of platforms the back up wants you to be connected to power before it runs, and that makes even more sense given that the battery on this old device isn't in that good shape.

A Clanger Theremin on Windows Mobile

I've been checking out some of the apps I have on my Windows Mobile device and I'd pretty much forgotten about this app. Ok it isn't very useful, but it is sort of fun. Nice to remember it again.

In 2003: Palm releases Zire 71 (OMAP310 144MHz processor; integrated camera; hi-res).

I really liked the 71. It wasn't as good as the 72 in my view, of course it was earlier but I liked the physical design of the slider. It was really cool.

In 2003: Palm releases Tungsten C (PXA-255 400MHz processor; integrated WiFi; first with 64MB RAM).

Integrated wifi wasn't something common back in 2003. In fact even having wifi at home wasn't entirely common, so the C was quite a step forward and a pretty impressive device, especially given its processor and amount of RAM.

In 1997: pilotgear, the first commercial software archive, goes online (later became PalmGearHQ)

PalmGear was an amazing portal for getting Palm OS software (we didn't call it apps in those days). I remember discovering it and finding so many new possibilities for my PDA. I'm so sad it went dark.

In 2003: HandEra announces end-of-life for PalmOS handheld lineup

What a shame. Handera made the TRG Pro and the 330, both excellent machines and way ahead of their time in my view. I wish they'd made an OS5 machine, it would have been amazing.

And now Palmorama has a Facebook page

For those that have been asking me about this, then here it is finally, you can check out the page here. In fact, please go and give the page a like. I really that there isn't much there as yet, but there will be in time.

Thanks! And please take a look at the page.

Why not take a look in the Palmorama library

All you need to do is click above where it says library, or click here. There's lots of good stuff in there, and I'm doing my best to continue to add to it on a regular basis.

NinerPaint will live again!

There are going to be at least a handful of people who know about this lovely Palm OS app from the past. Well there's some good news, NinerPaint is coming back, it's being ported to iOS, but the old Palm OS version will be available once more!

NinerPaint was way ahead of its time, so I'm really looking forward to seeing what it can do on iOS and also welcoming it back for Palm OS. As I have more news I'll post it.

Some time ago I used it for a live show once, you can see the visuals behind me. I think it worked really well.

ViziBasic working in Phem so far, but will it build? #pda

Another app that's at least partially working in Phem #pda

More additions to Phem although this one isn't too useful #pda

A pretty rare Fossil FX3005 smartwatch turns up on eBay

If I'm right this is the Fossil watch that used to work with a special service called MSN Direct. MSN Direct could even connect to your Outlook and provide some MSN Messenger features.

So it's a pretty rare item.

In 1996: Pilot 1000, 5000 start shipping

It was the very start of something that has defined the current mobile world. It was a big and important thing, and it good to mark it today in the calendar. So go and celebrate by doing something to do with PDAs today.

Is the PDA making a comeback?

Is the PDA making a come back?

Having seen the new Gemini PDA on indiegogo it made me wonder if this is just a blip or if this is an indication of something wider? The realisation that perhaps a tiny computer with a real keyboard is once again a real category?

Of course the king of this category was the Psion. Although I never had one they were lovely. Also the jornada series had keyboards and are still popular. So it’s good to see new blood come into this vintage domain. In fact I’d like to see even more. We shall see if my wish is granted.
