They made these so beautifully though

They look so lovely, especially these as they're untouched.

They're great. So big and full of information the kind of which you just don't see anymore.

In 2005: Sony announces the end of the Clie line

Not a surprise with what was happening elsewhere in the Palm world, but a big shame really. Sony did amazing things back then.

In 2000: Palm IIIc, IIIxe announced (IIIc: first color PalmOS device)

A colour screen was massive back in 2000. Strange to think that we've gone full circle with e-ink now.

In 1999: Palm V, IIIx announced (V: first integrated rechargeable battery; IIIx: 4MB RAM)

Wow, who knew you could have a rechargeable battery! Back then it was amazing innovation, and the IIIx with 4mb of memory! Amazing!

ThinkDB: Checklist plug in

A very useful add on to thinkDB. It allowed an applet to put content into the inbuilt checklist Palm OS app. Which was amazing, and all without any code at all.

And in that batch was this ...

I'm sure it isn't anything particularly amazing, but it is of course unopened and unused. I'll let you know what it is when I finally open it up.

Have any Bhajis Loops instruments, or looking for some to use?

Well you find lots in the Palmorama Bhajis Loops instrument site and if you want to contribute (and you'd be very welcome) just contact me using the form in the about page, I'd be very happy to hear from you.

ThinkDB Plug In Manager (again)

As you can see there was a wide variety of different plug ins available, and I think there were more as well, but I didn't have them or I've lost the files if I ever did have them.

I found this unopened batch of Palm books

I'm sure that's not rare really, but it was interesting to see what they're like when they're all brand new and pristine.

ThinkDB: The plug in manager

The ThinkDB plug in manager screen allowed you to sort out what you were doing with your plug ins too.

Very handy.

ThinkDB: Those were the plug in days ...

I thought it was worth pointing out how good a little app like ThinkDB was. Particularly because of this plug in architecture it had, which was very useful indeed. It allowed the app to extend past itself and allowed the user to create some really very clever applets inside ThinkDB whilst knowing nothing about programming at all really.

Back to the dull stuff again, although the modem was fun. I actually really liked the physical form factor of the modem too and some of the other devices that got built out of that casing.

Seems like there's nothing new over at 'mynewpalm.com'

Perhaps they didn't get the sort of reception they thought they would with bringing back the Palm OS brand?

I keep on checking to see if there's anything new, and hoping that I'll be impressed by something that they do. I'll keep looking. I don't have high hopes though.

Now these were nice. I liked the idea of these kind of folio cases. The best one I ever saw was the Seiko one which was able to convert your drawings on paper to your Palm PDA. That was impressive.

The old fold away keyboard was really very ingenious. The mechanics on it were great, but sadly I always found that they seemed to have problems here and there.

Palm III accessories guide 1

So nothing too interesting to start off with, although I do remember seeing people with a PDA clipped to their belts. It wasn't for me though.

Why not take a look in the Palmorama library

All you need to do is click above where it says library, or click here. There's lots of good stuff in there, and I'm doing my best to continue to add to it on a regular basis.

I always loved the accessories guides

So I think we'll go over this one page by page a bit like with the Visor one, although this one isn't as good. It still needs to be savoured.

In 2002: IBM to phase out WorkPad line (to carry Palm-branded devices instead)

Not a surprise really, but a shame. The WorkPad was ok, but just a Palm III really. I always thought it was a bit odd that they did it in the first place.

Remember when you used to get those big manuals for devices ...

Well this is a good example of one of those. Of course it was in multiple languages so that made it a lot bigger, but back then you used to see a lot of manuals like this. Explaining things in great detail. It was comforting in a way.

In 2004: PalmSource announces OS name changes: OS5 will become Garnet and OS6 will become Cobalt

Of course OS6 never really came to anything. It was a shame, a real shame. Of course everything was broken even before this when Palm split itself.

Take a look in the Palmorama store ... (well, if you want Palm OS stuff anyway)

Have a look in the store for all your Palm OS needs! You can just click above to get to the store. The store has lots of mainly 2nd hand stuff from eBay, but often there's some quite good stuff available, so it is worth a look occasionally. You never know, you might grab a bargain.

New in the Library ... ThinkDB

I'm trying to put more stuff in the library and to that end I've put ThinkDB2 in there, one of the most innovative little db engines for Palm OS in my view. You can find it here and download a demo too.

I also plan to add some of the plug in files for ThinkDB when I've had a chance to locate and upload them. I'll let you know as and when I've got that done.

Filling out the library

This is something I've been meaning to do for a while now, to add a lot more stuff into the library and I hope to do that over the next few weeks and months. When I add something I'll certainly let you know what I've added and why so you can take a look if it's something of interest to you.

So, stay tuned for more old stuff coming up!

In 2002: PalmSource previews OS5 beta; general distribution of OS5 developer tools

The awesome OS5, a huge step forward in so many ways for the Palm OS world and community. It gave us the opportunity to do some really amazing things in music and video.

So, where would you even go to find Palm OS apps these days?

There is almost nowhere really now. Back in the day it used to be places PalmGear HQ, Handango and others too, but now, where would you go? I really don't know. It struck me today and I wondered if anyone else was actually wondering this kind of thing?

There is still a freeware palm site I think, but a lot of the links are actually dead now, which is a shame.

I guess the other thing to consider is that perhaps there's just no need for this kind of thing anymore. That's entirely likely I guess, but I'm sure that there are still people who are looking for Palm OS apps. If that's the case, perhaps I'll do something about it. It'll probably be using my library (see above).

In 2004: Sony introduces TH55 (HVGA screen; WiFi; .3MP camera) TJ37 (WiFi; .3MP camera) and TJ27 (.3MP camera)

I didn't ever get to own one of these. I still sort of wish I did have one, and even occasionally look out for one. Very nice devices, very innovative in their day too.
