The massive internal memory of the Zodiac 2

Most OS5 series palm devices had a relatively limited amount of internal memory, maybe up to 64mb. Not so the Zodiac 2. With a huge (for it's time) 116mb you can do a lot with it. I'm filling it up as you can see.

Zodiac 2

The Zodiac 2 is a great design, a lovely piece of hardware with a bespoke interface for Palm OS 5.

The Zodiac 2 also has slots for 2 SD Cards which is really handy.

Handspring Visor Serial Cradle

All the visor cradles I've got are USB so it was good to be able to pick up this serial version which I hope will let me get going with using some old handspring visors for MIDI.

Change Name saves the day!

When trying to sort out the registrations on my Treo 650 I realised that I needed to change the hotsync ID name on the device to get the codes to work. Without doing this with a PC it's a bit tricky, until I remembered ChangeName. This little application is great for messing around with the hotsync name of your device. Problem solved.

if you need it, you can find it here.

Bhajis Loops Plug in files available in the library

Having added in the sample libraries for Bhajis Loops I thought I'd also add the plugin files that work with both Bhajis and Microbe too. They're in the library.

BeatPad and MeeBlip covered on MeeNBlip site

Somewhat amazed to see the lowly Palm PDA covered at meeblip.com, but great to see it nonethless.

I think I should do some more TRG Pro MIDI videos soon.

Copying with Windows Mobile

Strangely one of the easiest ways of getting files from SD to compact flash is to use my Dell Axim X51 which has both slots.

Bhajis Loops Sample Library Files available

I realised the other day when I was sorting out files for my Treo 650 that these files would be really useful to other people. So, if you're interested in these files you can find them here, at the Palm App Library.

MixPad

Every time I run this I wonder just how good it would have been to have a Pro version of MixPad. Never mind ...

The notational magic of NotePad

I've been a user of NotePad for years now. Probably not from when it first launched, but certainly from very early on. It is an amazing piece of software. It is also unique as I think it is fairly complete. With a lot of other Palm OS applications I often think "Wouldn't it be good if it could do ...", but not so with NotePad. It does all the things I want, and I still use it.

PixiLang, still running on the Palm OS

I was looking at the demo files for Pixilang the other day, trying to find the drum machine that I know was once there. I couldn't find it, but it did make me remember just how good Pixilang is and how much you can do with it. Considering it's cross platform it is amazing that it still supports the old Palm OS and Windows Mobile.

SoundPad, the Krikit engine

The concept was awesome. One app to make sounds and store them to be used by any other miniMusic application. It's still brilliant for making FM sounds which can then be used in BeatPad, and NotePad. How good is that?

The blank slate of AxisPad

Another great miniMusic app, and one of the last to be released for Palm OS. Still great, although I would have liked to see recording available. I doubt very much that will ever happen though.

The last version of BeatPad

I love BeatPad, and I'd forgotten just how good the last (and probably the last ever) version of it was. It added lots of new features and it works with miniMusic's sound engine Krikit. My favourite feature is the MIDI export, that's very cool indeed.

It's lovely. I think I might have to make a video or two of it soon.

A curious memory stick

The memory stick was always a proprietary Sony format, and they did some strange things with it, like this one, where it was a 256mb stick, but split in two with a little switch on the back to go from one to the other. How curious.

BeatPad and meeblip

I posted this first at PalmSounds, but as it's got BeatPad (an old love of mine) I have to post it here too.

TRG Pro running BeatPad and meeblip digital synth

Posted this over at Palm Sounds but the significant thing is that this is my new TRG Pro, which seems very happy to send MIDI over the serial connection. The other older one never wanted to. However, this one is running OS 3.5.1 as opposed to 3.5.3. I'm not sure that this makes a difference but I don't want to upgrade it just in case.

A little size comparison

I thought this would give an even better idea of size of the InnoGear MiniJam against an iPod Shuffle. The shuffle is a 1gb device.

InnoGear MiniJam inside the Visor

To give a better idea of the size of this MP3 player I thought it might be useful to see what it looked like in an actual Handspring Visor.

The InnoGear MiniJam MP3 player Springboard

These are quite rare these days so I was pleased to get hold of one. I bought it mainly to add it to my collection of springboards as I doubt that I'd really use it for listening, although, you never know of course.

I hope to get it up and running soon and have a look at what it is actually capable of.

Take a look in the Palmorama store ...

An old Handspring Visor

I got this Visor as part of buying a another handspring part. I haven't charged it up as yet, but I'm sure it'll work fine.
