PDA Camera Accessories: PalmPix

One of the first camera add-ons for a PDA I would guess. You could see the camera output on the screen in black and white although the actual photo was in colour. All quite low-res by today's standards though.

Springboard: My-Vox

Another voice recorder, and the last in this mini series on the springboard, a lost technology. Hope you enjoyed it.

Springboard: Voice Recorder

Another unusual springboard. This is an audio recorder. Mainly it was designed for voice notes and the like, and not really for field recording, but an interesting piece of technology nonetheless.

Springboards: Pocket Express db Now

One of the more unusual springboards. An actual database application and functionality on a hardware module. Strange stuff.

Springboards: 8mb Flash Module

The old 8mb flash module to extend the capacity of the device. Amazing to think that we talk about megabytes with these devices, and not gigabytes.

Things were all much smaller back then.

Springboards: Backup module

Amazing to think that these little hardware plug ins were where it was at back in the day of the Handspring visor. Amazing little things really.

Springboards, a lost art

I remembered my Handspring Springboard collection the other day and decided to pull it out to see what I still had.

It was a bit of a shame really, as I did get rid of a few of them some years ago. You hardly ever find these on eBay now, they're pretty much a lost art and a lost commodity, which is a shame really. So I'll be posting up some pictures of my little collection over the next few days.

Piezo in the emulator

Lovely isn't it. Piezo was one of the first Palm OS music applications I ever used and it made me realise what the capability of these little devices was.

Modern Clie Audio

If you have a Clie like an NX70v or similar and want to run audio software on it you should check out MCA (modern clie audio) which provides proper Palm OS 5 audio on clie devices. You can find it here.

Where has the Palm OS development community gone?

When I see just how active the Newton OS development community is I wonder why the same isn't true for the old Palm OS. There doesn't seem to be much in the way of new development, which is a real shame.

Even the old portals don't seem to have much new to offer.

So why is this? There must be a huge number of devices out there, and whenever I look on eBay for devices there always seems to be stuff being sold. So are people just not making new stuff, or only making stuff for themselves? I don't know, it's a shame either way.
