What next for Palm OS

I have been into the Palm OS for years. Of late I read lots of articles about how it is a dying OS, and how there's nothing new happening.

Well, perhaps it is true. I think that it was a big mistake to sell off the OS. Apple do both and do better because of it, and when Palm did both I think it was more dynamic.

I also think that there OS has gone stale. There's nothing new, nothing innovative happening, and Palm will be left behind if they don't move forward.

Over at least the last 12 to 18 months I have noticed a real decline in the number of truly innovative applications being released for the Palm platform, which is a massive shame. For the first few years of happing a palm I was astounded by the level of innovation in the palm community. Of late, it has seemed to be full of games and simple database applications and not much else. Of course there are exceptions, but nothing amazing for a while.

It is sad, but if I had to put money on it, I'd say that the Palm OS is on the way out. I wish it wasn't as I still own two devices and use them every day, but unless they move forward in a big way it is hard to see how they will manage to stay viable.
